2012 EPA Game Day Challenge

EPA Game Day recycling challenge

2011 EPA Game Day ChallengeOn the weekend of October 20th and 21st, OSU will compete in the EPA Game Day Challenge, a nationwide competition between universities to reduce waste at football games. The challenge is to educate football fans about waste reduction, and weigh all the trash and recycling from one game. The EPA takes the data and calculates stats such as our recycling rate and the pounds of greenhouse gases prevented from our actions, and schools are ranked.

How You Can Help

As a Game Attendee:

  1. Pack it in, pack it out. While tailgating, consider bringing trash home with you to help us reduce litter and waste.
  2. Get it in the right bin. Trash carts and/or dumpsters are located in every tailgating parking lot. Every stadium gate entrance has staffed recycle stations starting 2 hours before kickoff.
  3. Look for the mobile recycling trailer. Place your recyclables in the red bins in the trailer or hand them to a volunteer.  The trailer will circulate the tailgating areas around Reser Stadium starting 2 hours before kickoff.
  4. Leave recyclables at your stadium seat. Leave recyclables at your stadium seat where our cleaning crews can collect them, rather than throwing them in a garbage can.Volunteer!

As a Volunteer:

Join our team of volunteers to maximize our recycling rate and help OSU win! Here's how.

What OSU is Doing

  • Campus Recycling, Allied Waste, and the Oregon Beverage Recycling Cooperative (OBRC) will have a presence outside the stadium on game day to educate attendees about recycling. Volunteers will award prizes to attendees who bring their recyclables or who play a trivia game.
  • A group of GEO 300 students along with Campus Recycling staff will sort through all of the trash from the tailgating areas on Sunday after the game in order to maximize or recycling rate.
  • And the usual things we do for Game Day Recycling.
