Jobs with the Student Sustainability Initiative


The SSI has completed its hiring process for summer 2008 and the 2008-09 academic year, except for academic year Compost Coordinator. This position will reopen in August of 2008. The SSI is a student-funded organization and we only hire OSU students. For more information, please contact the SSI Coordinator Andrea.

Position Open (Will reopen August 2008):

Compost Coordinator (*.doc) will be responsible for running the SSI composting programs. Works 10-15 hours/week, 2008-09 academic year.

Grant Program


The Student Sustainability Initiative will award grants up to $5,000 for projects completed during the 2008-09 academic year! Projects should promote the SSI mission and benefit the OSU student body. Past grant projects include a compost feasibility study, experimental green roof, campus food web, and reuse a shoe program.

How to Apply

  1. Submit a letter of interest for your project by Friday, June 27, 2008. Your letter should be about one page in length and include how you will carry out your project, the benefits of your completed project to both the SSI's mission and the OSU student body, why you are qualified to carry out your project, and your contact information. Submit your letter through email or as a hard copy to the Student Sustainability Center.
  2. Submit a full grant proposal in the fall.  Applicants will have the summer to complete a full grant proposal, which will be due in late September or early October 2008. Proposal guidelines will be provided in this summer.
