Focus the Nation

What is Focus the Nation?

January 31, 2008 teachers and students across the country are coordinating a special day to discuss climate change solutions. To learn more about this event, please visit the official site.

Here at Oregon State University, our Focus the Nation team is planning an exciting day of campus-wide discussion that involves workshops, speakers, and a community fair and will conclude with a speech by the Mayor of Corvallis. We are having our event on the 30th to allow students to also attend the Portland event on the 31st. Our event will take place on Wednesday, January 30, 2008, 2–8 p.m. in the Memorial Union Ballroom. 

How can I participate?

To get involved, contact SSI Activities Director Nathan Jones.

For Students

  • Volunteer to help promote and/or coordinate the event.
  • If you are in a student and/or community group, get them to have a table at the event on the 30th.
  • Attend Focus the Nation panels and presentations in the MU Ballroom on the 30th.
  • Attend the Focus the Nation Portland event.
  • Bring Friends!!!

For Professors

  • Speak or host a workshop during the day long event.
  • Discuss climate change in your class that week.
  • Bring your class to the event that day.
  • Make event attendance an assignment or extra credit in your course.
  • Make an announcement (or allow one of our volunteers to make one) in your class about the events.
  • Help us contact professors to get them involved.

Evening Event at the University of Portland

The largest Focus the Nation event in our region will take place at the Chiles Center on the University of Portland campus.  The SSI is organizing a free bus ride for students and community members who want to attend the event. The bus will leave OSU at 3pm and return at 10:30pm on Thursday, Jan. 31st. Event Description
